The Waiting Game

Well as of 5:00 yesterday afternoon, I am officially off work for maternity leave. I'm at the end of my 38th week of pregnancy and just am too uncomortable to continue with work. Plus, even though I work with a number of nurses and doctors, no one there wants me going into labor while at work. Ewww.

I had a doctor appointment yesterday and didn't really get any new news. I was checked and am currently 1 cm dialated, which really doesn't mean anything. She DID say my cervix seems thin and soft. Sounds a little gross, but THAT is a good sign. That is called "effacement". She didn't give me a percentage, but when you start pushing you are 10 cms dialted and 100% effaced. Any movement towards those goals is good.

I was told that at my next appointment (on Thursday) they will discuss options for induction. I'm going to take whatever they offer me! Chances are, they won't be able to schedule anything for me until the week of May 9, which is my due date, so I won't be induced until after that date. Fine with me. I just don't want to wait over a week past the due date. That's just agony!

So, I now look forward to some time to do whatever a hugely pregnant woman can do while not working. I'm thinking sleeping and catching up on TV. Exciting and efficient, eh? Although, since I don't have to worry about saving any energy for work, I might be able to actually get SOME things done around the house. Pregnant women really do a lot if they are pregnant and working. You go to work all day, possibly come home to a family and a house you still need to care for, AND you are creating a life. Its a lot of work! So any of you pregnant ladies out there reading this (or ANY women who have had a baby before), YOU ARE AMAZING! Don't forget that!

Be prepared for more posts over the next week. With my lack of work and baby, I may decide to post some more. Although, I'm not promising ANYTHING exciting. Maybe more along the lines of "I bet you didn't realize how many soliciters visit your house during the day while you're at work."
